How to Play
You control a ball rolling across endless hills and slopes. The core mechanic is momentum management: build speed on downhills, launch off hilltops, and stick smooth landings to keep your run alive. The further you travel, the higher your score.
This sequel builds on the original with new terrain types, unlockable balls, and more dynamic maps. You start in a sunbaked desert with rolling sand dunes and eventually encounter slippery ice levels and hostile lava terrain.
Controls
- Hold Left Mouse Button / Spacebar / Up Arrow — Push the ball and build speed on downhill slopes
- Release — Stop pushing and let the ball launch off hill crests
- Mouse / Arrow Keys — Guide the ball's direction during flight
The timing of when you hold and release determines everything. Pushing on uphill sections slows you down. Pushing on downhills accelerates you. Release right as you crest a hill to launch into the air with maximum velocity.
Terrain Types
Each environment changes how the ball behaves:
- Desert Dunes — The default terrain. Massive rolling hills perfect for building speed and launching huge airtime. Great for learning the basics.
- Ice Levels — Reduced friction means the ball slides more and responds less to your input. Corrections need to be subtle and early.
- Lava Levels — Hostile terrain with smaller margins for error. Obstacles appear more frequently, and the ball moves at extreme speeds.
Momentum Tips
Momentum conservation is the single most important skill in Curve Rush 2. Here is how to maximize it:
- Only push on downhills. Pushing on flat ground or uphills wastes your potential energy. Wait for the slope to angle downward before holding the button.
- Launch at the crest. Release the push button right as you reach the peak of a hill. This gives you the maximum launch angle and airtime.
- Land on downhills. When coming back down from a jump, aim to touch down on a descending slope. This preserves your speed. Landing on an uphill kills your momentum instantly.
- Use airtime wisely. While airborne, you can slightly adjust your trajectory. Aim for the next downhill section to keep the chain going.
Unlocking New Balls
Different balls have slightly different physics. Some are lighter and fly farther, while others are heavier and roll through terrain more steadily. You unlock new balls by reaching distance milestones.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get more airtime? Build maximum speed on a long downhill, then release the push button right at the hill crest. Longer downhills generate more speed, which translates directly to higher launches.
Why does my ball slow down suddenly? You are likely landing on uphill sections or pushing during uphill segments. Both kill momentum. Focus on touching down on downhills and only pushing when going downhill.
Are there different maps or environments? Yes. The game features desert, ice, and lava terrain types, each with unique physics properties. New terrain appears as you progress further in a run.
