Surviving the Convent
You wake up trapped inside a dark, decaying school with Sister Madeline — a nun who is absolutely not going to invite you to prayer. Horror Nun is a first-person survival horror game where your only goal is to escape before she catches you. The building is a maze of corridors, locked rooms, and hidden passages, and every sound you make could give away your position.
The atmosphere is genuinely unsettling. Flickering lights, distant footsteps, and random noises keep you on edge even when nothing is happening. Sister Madeline patrols the school on a set pattern, and she reacts to sound — opening doors, running, and knocking over objects all draw her attention.
How to Play
- WASD — Move through the school
- Mouse — Look around
- E — Interact with objects, open doors, pick up items
- C / Ctrl — Crouch to move quietly
- Tab — Open your inventory
Core Mechanics
You need to find keys, solve puzzles, and locate escape routes while avoiding Sister Madeline. Items are scattered throughout the building — some are essential for progression, others are red herrings designed to waste your time. The puzzles are interconnected, meaning solving one often unlocks the tools you need for the next.
Survival Strategies
Learn Her Patrol Route
Sister Madeline follows predictable paths through the school. Spend your first few minutes of gameplay just observing where she goes. Once you know her route, you can plan your movements to stay in areas she's already passed through.
Use Hiding Spots Wisely
Lockers, vents, and under-desk spaces are your lifeline. If you hear her getting close and you can't create distance, duck into the nearest hiding spot immediately. Don't wait until you see her — by then it's usually too late.
Minimize Noise
Running is loud. Walking is quieter. Crouching is nearly silent. Only run when you know she's on the opposite side of the building. Closing doors behind you also reduces the chance she'll follow your trail.
- Memorize the map layout — getting lost while being hunted is a death sentence
- Check every drawer and shelf for keys and puzzle pieces
- If she spots you, run to the nearest hiding spot, not the nearest exit
- Some puzzles require items from different floors, so plan your routes carefully
FAQ
How long does it take to beat Horror Nun? A first playthrough typically takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on how quickly you solve puzzles. Speedrunners can complete it much faster once they know the layout and optimal routes.
Does Sister Madeline get faster as the game progresses? Yes. She becomes more aggressive and responsive to sound the further you progress. Early on she patrols slowly, but by the late game she reacts to even small noises and moves faster.
Are there multiple endings? There are multiple escape routes, and each one counts as a different ending. Finding all of them requires exploring parts of the school you might skip on a normal playthrough.
