Steel Legion — Command Your Mechanical Army

Steel Legion drops you into a war-torn world where massive mechanical warriors clash for territory and resources. You command a squad of steel soldiers, each with unique abilities, and battle through waves of enemy machines. It blends tower defense strategy with real-time action, giving you the thrill of direct combat alongside the satisfaction of tactical planning.

Getting Started

When you first load in, you start with a basic squad of three mechanical units: a tanky frontliner, a ranged artillery unit, and a scout. Your goal is to push through enemy territory by defeating all hostile units in each zone. Between battles, you upgrade your units, unlock new abilities, and prepare for tougher fights ahead.

Controls

  • Click on a unit: Select it for movement or ability use
  • Right-click on terrain: Move selected unit to that position
  • 1, 2, 3 keys: Activate unit special abilities
  • Spacebar: Pause the battle and issue commands while paused
  • Tab: View the full battlefield overview

Unit Types and Roles

Understanding your units is the key to victory in Steel Legion:

  • Guardian (Frontliner): High health, strong melee damage. Position these at the front to absorb enemy attacks.
  • Artillery (Ranged): Long-range attacks with splash damage. Fragile, so keep them behind your Guardians.
  • Scout (Speed): Fast movement, moderate damage. Best for flanking enemies and capturing resource points.
  • Medic (Support): Heals nearby units over time. Unlock this unit early — it dramatically improves your survivability.
  • Siege Breaker (Heavy): Unlocked later in the game. Massive damage to structures and heavy units. Slow but devastating.

Tactical Strategies

  • Formation matters. Never send all your units in a straight line. Spread your frontliners across the approach and position ranged units behind them.
  • Use the pause feature. Pressing Spacebar freezes combat but lets you reposition and plan. There is no penalty for pausing, so use it generously.
  • Focus fire. Select all your ranged units and target a single enemy at a time. Killing one enemy quickly is better than damaging three enemies halfway.
  • Capture resource nodes early. Some maps have energy nodes that heal your units or grant temporary damage boosts. Rush a scout to these points.
  • Upgrade wisely. Early resources are scarce. Prioritize health upgrades for your Guardian and damage upgrades for your Artillery before spreading points across all units.

Campaign Progression

The campaign is divided into zones, each containing three to five battles. Zones get progressively harder, introducing enemy types with special abilities like shields, teleportation, and self-repair. Boss battles at the end of each zone pit you against massive war machines that require careful strategy to defeat.
